Hello fellow travelers, this is my first travel blog and I’m excited to share my experiences and adventures with you. I know there is always room for improvement, but I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Herein, I would like to share my recent 30-hour trip to Kuala Lumpur from San Jose, CA, and my stay at Nu Hotel, KL Sentral.

Travel Information

I booked my ticket on www.united.com and departed from San Jose on November 30th. I arrived in Kuala Lumpur on December 2nd.

Flying to Kuala Lumpur via Houston and Haneda

I flew to Kuala Lumpur via Houston and Haneda. First, I departed from San Jose (SJC) and arrived in Houston to catch the connecting flight to Haneda. Before proceeding to the Haneda flight gate, I visited the United Club in terminal C. It is a decent lounge with a variety of complimentary snacks, soft drinks, coffee, sandwiches, and more. However, I believe alcohol is not included and must be purchased separately.

Due to maintenance issues, the Haneda flight was delayed by 45 minutes. The ANA staff at gate D-5 were friendly and helpful, changing my regular window seat to an exit row aisle seat with plenty of legroom. As always, the flight attendants, dressed in beautiful uniforms, were polite and friendly. The flight to Haneda was smooth, with only a few minor turbulences. ANA served a nice meal an hour after takeoff and another simple meal before landing. Additionally, ANA is known for serving the best green tea. It was mandatory to wear a mask on the flight.

ANA Flight NH 113 to Haneda

We landed at Haneda airport almost an hour late. After going through security screening, I hurried to the gate to catch my Kuala Lumpur flight. As there were not many passengers at the gate, I requested the ANA representative if it was possible to assign me a seat in an empty row, and fortunately, I was given one. I was able to sleep and rest comfortably all the way to Kuala Lumpur. After takeoff, they served a small snack bag as the first meal, and a few hours before landing in Kuala Lumpur, they served a very nice meal.

KLIA  to KL Sentral Station

I landed in Kuala Lumpur at around 6:30 AM and took a train to another terminal to go through immigration and customs. After clearing customs, I took an elevator to the KLIA Ekspres train terminal, purchased a ticket, and got on the next train. The ride was around 30 minutes, and I arrived at KL Sentral around 8:30 AM.

KLIA Ekspres

  • Purchased a round trip ticket at the ticket counter instead of the ticket machine.
  • We saved 10 MYR by buying a round trip ticket. It cost 100 MYR instead of 110 MYR. I believe the return ticket is valid for a month.
  • Trains run every 20 minutes during peak hours and every 30 minutes during off-peak hours. Please check the train schedule.
  • Departure and arrival were on time.
  • The train was very clean and spacious.

Why I Chose Nu Hotel, KL Sentral?

I prefer to find a hotel near KL Sentral station for easy access to trains. This was my first time staying at Nu Hotel, and I called to make a reservation.

I arrived at Nu Hotel around 8:45 AM, several hours before check-in time. Luckily, the manager let me check-in early. The hotel requires a 50.00 MYR deposit, which will be returned during checkout. The room was very simple with basic facilities, but I was pleased with the cleanliness of the bed, table, and bathroom.

I will choose this hotel for all my future Kuala Lumpur trips and recommend it to others for the following reasons:

  • It is a ten-minute walk from KL Sentral train station
  • There is easy access to KLIA Ekspres, KTM Komuter train, Rapid KL, and KL Monorail
  • The hotel is very clean and affordable (under 40 USD)
  • There are restaurants within walking distance, and it is less than a five-minute walk to convenience stores
  • They accept international credit cards, and it is in a safe location
  • The staff speaks Malay, English, and Tamil, and they are friendly and helpful.

A Short Walk to Nu Hotel From KLIA Ekspres Terminal

After leaving the terminal, I turned left and entered Nu Sentral mall, following the dotted line on the floor until I reached Sephora. I took the stairs to the next lower level, turned left, and walked towards the monorail ticket counter. I then took the second escalator next to the monorail counter to reach the street beside Easy Hotel. Nu Hotel is located behind Easy Hotel. I turned right after Easy Hotel and walked for about a minute to reach Nu Hotel.

Please Note

  • If you turn right from the KLIA Ekspres terminal and exit through the door next to McDonald, it would take you to the taxi stand.
  • The Nu Sentral mall timing is 10 am to 10 pm.  We can not use the mall entrance door before 10 am to go to the train station.  But there is one side door opens at 6 am and we can access to the trains.  I went through the door at 6 am to take a morning train to Pasar Sani. The staff at the monorail ticket counter was helpful and directed me to this side door.

Short stay Hotel option

If your hotel does not have a room for an early check-in or wants to charge for an extra day, De Sentral hotel is the best option for a short stay.  We could stay here for 4 h at an affordable price.  We can freshen up and relax until the hotel room is available.  In 2019, when “Easy Hotel” demanded an early check-in fee, I found this hotel and stayed for 12 h.  The rate was very inexpensive and affordable.  The room was very basic with a clean bed and bathroom.      This hotel is located very close to the Easy hotel on the same street. No advanced reservation is required. We can just walk in and book a room.  Very friendly managers.

De Sentral Hotel & Easy Hotel

The short Kuala Lumpur trip was a great one, largely thanks to my pleasant stay at Nu Hotel KL Sentral. With its central location, I was able to visit my favorite places in the city in a short amount of time. In the future blogs, I will share my trips to a few interesting places in Kuala Lumpur.
