Siddhivinayak Temple

The Mumbai Siddhivinayak Temple is an iconic religious site situated in the heart of the bustling city. Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, this temple holds immense spiritual significance for devotees and tourists alike. The main shrine of the temple is Lord Siddhi Vinayak, who is believed to grant the wishes of the devotees. Over the years, the Siddhivinayak Temple has evolved from a small shrine to the grand temple that stands today, attracting visitors from all over India.

Mahalakshmi Temple

The Mumbai Mahalakshmi Temple is a revered Hindu temple located in the bustling city of Mumbai, dedicated to the Hindu goddess Mahalakshmi. Situated on Bhulabhai Desai Road in the Mahalaxmi area of Mumbai, the temple offers a splendid view of the picturesque Arabian Sea.

The Mahalaxmi Temple houses the Tridevi goddesses – Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. Adorned with nose rings, gold bangles, and pearl necklaces, Goddess Mahalakshmi takes the central position. The temple compound features several stalls selling flower garlands, fruits, and coconuts as offerings

Devotees offer prayers, perform rituals, and seek the blessings of the goddess for wealth, success, and overall well-being at the Mumbai Mahalakshmi Temple. It stands as a prominent religious landmark, drawing both devotees and tourists who seek blessings, tranquility, and a glimpse into the rich traditions of Hinduism.

My Trip to Mumbai to Visit Siddivinayak and Mahalakshmi temples

I have been longing to visit the Mahalakshmi Temple for a considerable amount of time. In Hinduism, there is a belief that certain temples hold exceptional sanctity, and it is believed that one must receive an invitation from the deity to visit them. Finally, the time has come, and this long-awaited spiritual journey is about to unfold. In this post, I would also like to share details about the hotel I stayed in and how I managed to visit both the Siddhivinayak and Mahalakshmi temples.

I chose Air India for my flight from Chennai to Mumbai because they allowed a checked baggage allowance of up to 25 kg. The flight arrived on time, and upon collecting my bags, I proceeded to the prepaid taxi service to hire a taxi. I paid approximately 800 rupees for the journey to Hotel Kohinoor Park.

After conducting some research, I decided to book this hotel through Agoda due to its convenient location. The Siddhivinayak Temple was just a 5-minute walk away from the hotel. As I got off the taxi, the Siddhivinayak Temple came into view. However, due to ongoing renovation work, the gopuram (temple tower) was covered, preventing me from witnessing its beautiful architecture.

The check-in process at the hotel was efficient, and I found the room spacious enough. The room had several outlets that accommodated US plugs, making it easier for travelers like myself. The bed and bathroom were clean. The front desk is available 24/7, and there are convenient dining options nearby, such as McDonald’s on the left side and Domino’s Pizza on the right side of the hotel.

To buy water or food, we can just walk to the stores located next to the siddhivinayak temple. My hotel price did not come with a breakfast. i paid around 400 rs for a simple buffet breakfast. They would make hot dosa and also omlet on request.

A Cautionary Note About This Hotel

One thing to be cautious about this hotel is that when I requested toilet paper from the front desk, they asked me to pay for it since I would be checking out in 4 hours. If you plan to stay here, please take note of this policy.

Overall i will come back to stay because it is closer to the siddhivinayak temple.

Visiting Siddhivinayak Temple

Since my intention was to visit the temple as soon as it opened, I went to sleep early and missed the chance to experience the surrounding atmosphere at night. Following my plan, I prepared to visit the Siddhivinayak Temple around 6 am. Since the temple was visible from the hotel entrance, I didn’t require assistance from the front desk. I took a left turn from the hotel and crossed the road to reach the temple entrance. There were several small stalls selling garlands, sweets, and fruits to offer to the deity.

Temple Guidelines

There is no admission fee to enter the temple premises. There are designated areas where visitors can deposit their shoes and store their cameras and laptops. Please note that video cameras and cameras are not permitted inside the temple. Shoes are also not allowed inside, but there are facilities available to leave them. The Siddhivinayak temple operates from 5.30 am to 9.50 pm, allowing ample time for devotees to visit and seek blessings.

I arrived at the temple in time to witness the serene rituals taking place. Since it was early Monday morning, the temple was not crowded, allowing me a clear view of the deity. After offering my prayers, I exited the temple and hired a taxi to go to the Mahalakshmi Temple. There were taxis available near the temple. I informed the driver about my intention to visit the Mahalakshmi Temple and return to the hotel. He quoted a fare of 500 rupees for the round trip.

Visiting Mahalakshmi Temple

According to Google Maps, the distance between the two temples is 6.7 km. Since it was an early Monday morning, the crowd was minimal, allowing for a more peaceful visit. Along the way, I noticed numerous small stores selling flowers, sweets, and fruits. There was also a designated area where visitors could leave their shoes. The taxi I had hired was patiently waiting for me. To ensure I could easily locate the same taxi later, I took a picture of its number plate.

After leaving my shoes on the shoe rack, I proceeded towards the temple. I had to climb a few steps to reach the main temple area. The darshan (sacred viewing) was truly wonderful, and I spent a significant amount of time there. When I left the temple, I felt completely satisfied with my experience.

In conclusion, my visit to the Siddhivinayak and Mahalakshmi temples in Mumbai was a truly enriching and spiritual experience. These sacred sites not only provided me with an opportunity to seek blessings and immerse myself in the rich traditions of Hinduism but also showcased the architectural beauty and cultural significance of these iconic landmarks. I highly recommend exploring these temples to anyone seeking spiritual solace and a deeper connection with Indian culture. May the blessings of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Mahalakshmi continue to guide and inspire all who visit these sacred abodes.
