My Experiences Trying Different Restaurants Around KL Sentral

Hello fellow travelers: When in Kuala Lumpur, it’s impossible to resist the temptation of trying the local cuisine. In this article, I share my experiences dining at two Indian restaurants and a McDonald’s near KL Sentral.

Jeya Vilas

Jeya vilas is a very simple South Indian restaurant and a 2-3 min walk from Nu hotel, where i stayed. The staff at the restaurant are friendly and can communicate in English, Malay and Tamil.  First day, I ordered fried rice, parotta (roti canai in Malaysia) and tea with milk and sugar.  I enjoyed their friendly service and also the food.

On my second day in KL, I headed straight there for breakfast and ordered an onion uthappam and a plain dosa. The uthappam was crispy with lots of onions and spices. The dosa was equally satisfying – thin and crispy. It is an affordable friendly restaurant.  I only ordered and ate freshly cooked items and did not try any of the items from the shelf.

Anjappar Restaurant

Anjappar is one of the famous south indian restaurant chains.   I really had a hard time finding this restaurant in the heavy pouring rain.  It is less than 10 min walk from the Nu hotel.  I ordered mutton soup, mutton curry, fried fish and rice. The person who took the order was not that friendly and also missed my fried fish order.  Glad he did not charge for this item.   Affordable price and nice selection of non-vegetarian menu.   Next time, I will visit this restaurant and try the mutton soup again. Anjappar is a well-known chain of South Indian restaurants, and I was excited to visit their branch near the Nu hotel. However, finding the restaurant proved to be a challenge in the heavy rain, I ended up walking in circles for a while! Once I finally arrived, I was relieved to see that the restaurant was cozy and welcoming. I ordered a few dishes – the mutton soup, mutton curry, fried fish, and rice – and settled in to wait. Unfortunately, the person who took my order wasn’t the friendliest, and they ended up forgetting my fried fish. To their credit, they didn’t charge me for it, but it was still a bit disappointing. Despite that hiccup, I enjoyed the food – the mutton curry had a rich, spicy flavor, and the mutton soup was warming and comforting. The prices were also quite reasonable, especially considering the generous portions. All in all, I would recommend Anjappar for a satisfying, affordable meal – and I look forward to trying more of their menu items next time I’m in the area

McDonald’s

I visited the McDonald’s in KL Sentral and ordered my usual favorite – a spicy chicken sandwich, fries, and a coffee. The restaurant was extremely crowded and I had to wait for more than 30 minutes to receive my order. Despite the long wait, the meal was quite inexpensive compared to prices at McDonald’s in the Bay Area.
